This weekend the UK has been hit by some of the most ferocious storms for quite a while. As inches of rain fell in the north it naturally coincided by my rare visits to do some landscape photography! But as I have learnt that should be no excuse for failing to get out there and take a few chances. So I had 1.5 days on the Jurassic Coast with my Dad and this time I chose not to use the large format. Experience has taught me that it is far better to actually get a picture than have the weather throw enough at you to prevent you. . This time armed with the 1Ds (so weather seals at the ready) we stood precariously close to the edge as the Atlantic vented its fury. The process was wipe the filter, take a picture, turn your back to the oncoming waves and so on…rinse and repeat about 10 times. Although I had in my mind what I wanted to create the difficulties of the image made it an element of luck. I would say that we were lucky! The colour appeared and disappeared in seconds….The second image is of dawn at Durdle Dor with the only show of colour that appeared in the far horizon. But what struck me about the crazy light that morning was the colour of the sea – very strange…makes it look almost tropical! I guess that’s what a 30 second exposure will do for you!
