Glen Lyon

My first day in Scotland and what a day it was! Concern about not having made landscape images for almost a year occupied my thoughts on the way here. Would I be able to ‘see’, would I fumble with the large format camera…

In getting the time off from my fatherly responsibilities, Nina had decided that I would have to go somewhere new and really work (as if I don’t usually!) at it. So I’ve been bundled off to Pitlochry and as I mentioned above I was a little nervous…so after much studying of maps I decided to start in Glen Lyon. It’s a truly beautiful Glen, starting in the east with Aberfeldy and then moving westwards through high sided gorges, waterfalls and ringed on all sides with Munroes. I’ve been damn lucky with the weather; it snowed about week ago and from what’s left it must have been quite a blizzard. Today was cold, sharp and excruciatingly beautiful. I’m shooting digital alongside film – the immediacy of images at the end of today was great.

And finally for today: I parked the car (tricky along the narrow road that runs alongside the river) and went for a wander…needless to say I rushed back to the car for my camera! As I was taking this image there were birds of prey keening overhead..wow! Can’t wait to see what the 5×4 slides are like
