I’m interested in gear just as much as the next person and like a lot of photographers out there, I subscribe to the opinion that it’s not really about the gear. However there is also a lot of nonsense written by photographers on the subject – good gear does make a difference – it wont let you down in the snow, rain or sand. Good gear will also allow you to concentrate more on creating than worrying about how the final image will appear. So if you would like to know what’s in my bag here’s the list:
Large Format
Camera: Linhof Technikarden 45S
Lenses: unlike lenses manufactured by say Canon or Nikon, large format lenses are by and large pretty much the same across all manufacturers. Some may and do disagree, but in the real world of viewing prints there is no way you could tell! I use the following focus lengths: 90mm, 150mm, 210mm and 300mm. If you are not familiar with Large Format lenses then just divide those numbers by 3 to get a very approx 35mm equivalent focal length.
Accessories: Linhof viewer, paintbrush (seriously,) Paramo dark cloth, Manfrotto 405 tripod head, Gitzo tripod (Studex variety) and a Pentax 1 degree Spot Meter
Film: Quickload packs of Fuji Velvia
