That feeling as I pass the Green Welly at Tyndrum: turn right to wilderness. My shoulders relax and my eyes bounce left and right along the A82. Glen Coe and Rannoch Moor have been photographed countless times, done to death, and I love them. I spent years pointing my camera away from the Buachaille because every picture of it seemed to have been taken already. One crisp winter dawn I gave in.

I remember driving through here as a youngster, my mind full of The Lord of the Rings, and it is just as striking now. Empty, remote places strike a chord in me, and not only photographically. I have stood high on the hillside as a shaft of light turned the River Coe to silver, with the rain grazing the top of Bidean nam Bian. Rain and sunlight together: how very soul wrenchingly Scottish.
