Berkshire landscape prints
Crowthorne Woods, Swinley Forest and the woods around Wokingham
Berkshire is not known for its landscapes. It is soft, gentle and pastoral, the home of The Wind in the Willows, and almost all of its woodland is managed. I lived here for years without finding anywhere to photograph, because I never researched home the way I research Scotland. It took me seven years of looking. Now I have heathland and woods everywhere, Crowthorne Woods and Swinley Forest are on my way to work, and I can keep going back as the seasons and the light change.
Many of these were made in an hour or two before work, on the mornings the mist came in. One March I was in Crowthorne Woods at a quarter past five, with the mist as thick as cotton wool and the wood silent enough to raise the hairs on my neck. Then the sun rose, the mist began to glow and beams of light pierced it between the trees. A scene like that is not meant to happen in Berkshire. Another evening the mist came through the hedge outside the kitchen window and I ran into the field with whatever I could grab.
These are the prints from those mornings.
